Self-isolation and switching to remote work increased the number of downloads of business apps – in the first week of April 2020 users downloaded 80% more than in January. The top three were ZOOM Cloud Meetings, Microsoft Teams, and Hangouts Meet.

The second place goes to apps in the field of education - 65% more than at the beginning of the year. Apps with educational materials as well as platforms for conducting lessons are especially popular.

Food delivery services and fitness apps have significantly gained popularity with 45% more downloads. Russians prefer to order food using Delivery Club and Yandex.Food apps. At the same time the only app from retailers that got into the top by downloads was the app of the Pyaterochka store. In the category of health and fitness apps that offer classes without equipment and meditation have become popular.

The number of downloads also increased in the segment of social media and entertainment services, which increased by 20%. Among social networks Tiktok became more popular than even Whatsapp, which was the leader in 2019. In the entertainment category the first place was taken by ivi.ru, also Kinopoisk and TNT-Premier. The need to entertain children and work remotely made applications for children like Trolls.Karaoke and Youtube Kids popular.

The situation has changed the least for mobile games, they are downloaded only 7% more, but the total number of downloads in the category remains unattainable – in total, games were downloaded more than 55 million times in April. The worst situation is for shopping apps that lost users – the number of downloads decreased by 15% during the quarantine.
