Clouds are becoming commonplace for Russians

According to IBM, almost two thirds of Russian use cloud apps in everyday life – 65%. 78% of respondents are agree to keep their photos in cloud, 43% of respondents – medical cards. 17% of Russians will trust their financial information to the cloud store and 16% – their passwords.

Among the main criteria when choosing a cloud service provider, respondents noted the security of the service (73%). For 68% of respondents, it is important the service to ensure that data won’t be lost.

Every fourth Russian (25%) regularly uses cloud services in their work. 75% of users use the cloud to communicate with colleagues. The main advantage of technologies for them is improving the efficiency of internal processes (70%) and the overall cost reduction (58%).

The development of cloud technologies gives a great stimulus to the widespread use of artificial intelligence technologies, according to IBM. According to the survey, two thirds of Russian respondents have a positive attitude to the "help" of AI to manage data stored in the cloud.

"Everyone knows how machine learning is used in everyday life, prompting the "right" books, music and movies. At the same time, in an increasing number of companies and organizations, employees use real electronic assistants in the form of chatbots, which eliminate the routine search, selection and markup of information", – says Dmitry Shpil, the head of the Department of cloud and cognitive solutions of IBM in Russia and CIS countries.

According to him, the availability of cloud services is at high level in Russia – both in retail and corporate segment. If in consumer sector the main driver is the development of mobile internet, then in the business sphere it’s all about the calculated benefit from the organization of the joint work with information through the cloud, taking into account all possible risks. Obstacles can be different – from the language or financial ones in case of using foreign cloud services till the technological or regulatory ones.

The growth of using clouds is unstoppable. "Today we hear more often from the consumers about the management of multi cloud or hybrid environments. New circle of digital transformation, connected with active distribution of micro service architecture, will lead to the even bigger distribution of cloud services" – supposes Dmitry Shpil.

The study in 2019 was conducted by the agency NMS Market Research on demand of IBM. 500 Russians from the age of 18 and older were interviewed about using of cloud services and applications in private life and at work.

The interest to the cloud technologies in Russia both in everyday life and business is growing annually, agreed with results of the survey Sergey Samoukhin, director of cloud solution department, Softline. If several years ago clouds were used only in the most technological spheres – retail, financial sphere, IT-companies and developers, then today, for example, traditional conservative medical organizations also join them. In general, the annual growth of the cloud direction is 30-40%.

According to Softline expert, the cloud market is still far from saturation. He predicts the growth of both "domestic" and corporate consumption of cloud. "As a rule, at work employees have office apps from Microsoft and Google, access in different cloud CRM-systems, schedulers. All these services show the stable growth each year", – said Sergey Samoukhin. It’s important for people to have an access to the information without binding to one device both at work and at home.

The details of the IBM study seem convincing, considers Valentin Krokhin, marketing and product development director, Rostelecom-Solar. He notes that artificial intelligence for management cloud data is only experiments yet. "It’s not the time to speak how AI can help in data management. First of all, it needs to be taught to adequately assess the information. However, no doubt, AI will be used in clouds to raise their manageability, availability and safety."

Cloud services are used actively by attackers to deliver malicious software, at the same time, the level of users protection is low, according to Dr.Web company. Cloud services aren’t protected. The process of files transmission is protected but it also can have vulnerabilities. "It’s very easy to place malicious software in cloud services. The typical example – Google Play shop. The number of detected applications there can be hundreds and thousands", – said the representative of Dr.Web.

According to TMT Consulting, the Russian market of cloud services increased by 31% in 2018 and achieved 55.9 billion rubles. Safe storage and data control are still key issues of cloud industry development in the world.
